The government is so…
I have serious issues with the way the government controls a lot of things. While I am happy to vent all day about the government’s ineptitude, right now I’m more interested in Ms Jolette Bird Bear’s call to action. The challenges are huge. For example, in the last 3 days, I’ve dealt with power outages, internet crashes, and the main water line connecting my house burst because of the record breaking cold here in New Mexico.
Here’s another example: my mother, who lives in Colorado, is trapped in her apartment. Not because of the cold, although that doesn’t help, but because there is a pandemic going on. This Covid-19 virus is and its variants are scary! Add to that, she doesn’t have a computer. Her only access to the outside world is her telephone and her television. She, at least, is in a bigger city than I am, but she can’t get to FederalRegister.gov. She’s ever gotten a robocall, or a notice in the mail, and these changes aren’t even featured on any news channel that she watches.
I’m curious, do any of you have similar issues? How is technology, or lack of it, keeping you from being aware? Have you noticed anything about this in your email box, or Facebook feed? Twitter or Instagram? Even if you had heard about it, could you get to a hearing if it were scheduled in your area? Neither my mother, nor I, could because we don’t have reliable transportation.
Tell us about your issues. The more Ms. Armstrong and I know about these challenges, the easier it will be to include in the petition we are forming. Join in the discussion and help us help you.
To know more about the injustice of the timing and method the Department is using in rolling out these new regulations, listen to the video on our Blog post: Elder’s Plea to Delay AIPRA Rulemaking during Pandemic.
These new rules will give Native Americans even less due process and protection for Indian landowners. It is vital that you be involved and learn what these new regulations mean for you and your future generations. The proposed changes and presentation materials can be found on our Blog page: AIPRA Proposed Rule Presentation Materials.
